Yes! I’ve been meaning to write an article with a very similar message. I find it so ironic that someone who is feasting on pizza, fast food, and ice cream can comfortably point a finger at vegans as unhealthy.

The most frequent versions of unhealthy vegan that I see are: 1) junk food vegans; 2) fruitivores / juicivores (they truly don’t get enough protein!) and 3) white pasta-ivores.

Unfortunately, these groups provide great examples for the argument that vegans are unhealthy.

Those of us that eat mostly real foods, and enjoy moderation go unnoticed…Not to mention all the outstanding vegan professional athletes including bodybuilders!

I do want to emphasize that a vegan diet does not naturally contain vitamin B12 or adequate amounts of specific omega-3 fatty acids. Every vegan should either supplement B12 or consume ample fortified products (like soy or almond milk – read the label). For omega 3, I use an algae-based supplement to get my DHA and EPA. I recommend keeping an eye on iron levels as well, this is highly personal and some of us can benefit from a supplement.
